Your Destination

The geographically diverse, East-African Kenya is one of the most populated countries in Africa, stretching over half of a million square kilometers and sharing major borders with the Indian Ocean and 5 major countries including Uganda, Tanzania and Ethiopia. Kenya has it all! Home to Africa’s “Big 5” (the lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros), broad plains, high mountain peaks, patches of tropical rain forests, fresh water lakes, bustling cities and small rural communities. Economically, the World Bank has recently suggested that the Kenyan gap between rich and poor is one of the highest in Africa, with 62 percent of Kenya’s national wealth being controlled by an estimated 8,000 people, while UNICEF estimates that 42 percent of the country’s 44 million citizens live below the poverty line. Kenyan wealth inequality is on full display, from the upscale mansions and condominiums down to the rural Internally Displaced People Camps and Kibera – the largest urban slum in Africa.

Your Experience

Meet the dedicated women who volunteer their time, and experience an indescribable connection while supporting the children at Compassionate Hands for the Disabled. Feel proud about providing local entrepreneurs with the opportunity to guide you through the great Maasai Mara, while seeing and experiencing the Maasai Mara in a way that must be seen to be believed, including an overnight stay in a remote but comfortable Mara Safari Camp. Learn about the grassroots initiatives at the Mara North Environmental Foundation, fall in love with African Reggae at the local nightspots, take advantage of immaculate photo-ops in the Rift Valley region, take a unique game drive in the famous Nakuru National Park where you are likely to see endangered rhinos at a close distance, and walk amongst giraffes, zebras, wildebeests and more in their natural habitat after exploring Kenya’s hippos on a boat ride to a secluded island. Enjoy real local food, authentic culture and welcoming communities while supporting local artisans and businesses as you travel. Your impact-travel to Kenya will take you from the outskirts of Nairobi, through the Great Rift Valley, to the plains of the Maasai Mara, across Lake Naivasha, into a rural Maasai community and everywhere in between - all in a way that makes a difference, simply by experiencing the country in its’ most raw and authentic form.
